Summer, 2010
Attention NEW 4th and 5th Graders!
Take a look at the bookshelf! Right now it has the (10) books nominated for next year's Nutmeg Children's Book Award. These are fiction stories that I hope you will try and read. Then, in January, 2011, YOU can vote for your favorite, as we wait to see who wins the 2011 Nutmeg Award!
When you return to school in September, we will talk about the Nutmeg books again, and there will be copies for you to check out and read during the Fall.
But right now, and over the summer, you can start reading any of them! The Ferguson Library has copies of all these books. So when you sign up for The Ferguson Library Summer Reading Club, check out a Nutmeg title and get started!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Siegel |

Time for Summer Reading Fun!
The other FABULOUS reading activitiy we wish to promote is the Ferguson Library's Summer Reading Club. Our friends from Ferguson will be visiting Newfield on Tuesday, June 1st, to tell everyone about this year's club. The theme is "Make a Splash at the Library." As in the past, your child can keep a summer reading record on hand at the library branch of your choice, and keep adding titles of books read over the summer...books borrowed from our Newfield summer collection, books purchased at our spring Book Fair, books from your home libraries, and, of course, books found at the Ferguson! There are prizes given along the way, and a special event to attend in August for students completing only (5) books. That's easy! There is also a "FREE" gift book given to any child reading (10) books. Not hard to do if you love to read!
So please get ready for some serious Summer Reading FUN!
It's time to learn more about how Non Fiction books areorganized in most libraries, at school, or the public library... The amazing classification system was invented by Melville Dewey, a librarian, some years ago. If you want to learn more about The Dewey Decimal Classification System and how it works, here's a link to a great website with all of the info..
"Do We" really Know Dewey?
